After intense refurbishment, the first five-star resort in the Algarve – The Blue&Green Vilalara Thalassa Resort - reopened with a brand new image. Recently recognized as Portugal’s leading 5 star resort, it has much to offer.

An integral part of the Small Luxury Hotels Collection, Vilalara is located 45 minutes from the Faro Airport in the municipality of Lagoa, Alporchinhos. Surrounded by 11 hectares of lush gardens, with direct access to a secluded golden sand beach, the resort includes 104 Junior Suites, seven Suites and 13 two and three-bedroom Apartments. It also features two restaurants, six fresh or sea water pools, four tennis courts and one of the best Thalassotherapy and Spa Centres in the world.

Following its refurbishment, the Thalassotherapy Centre, considered by Condé Nast Traveller to be one of the world’s five best, is now complemented by a Spa and offers a large variety or new slimming and well-being programmes. The Thalassotherapy and Spa Centre has area of 2600m2 and includes 20 thalassotherapy treatment rooms and 22 spa treatment rooms and includes three pools, a beauty salon and hairdresser. This emphasis on a more varied range extends to the fitness area which has been totally renovated providing guests with many more options.

Thalassotherapy involves the combined use of seawater, sea air and marine extracts such as seaweed, marine mud and sand. We therefore recommend the thalassotherapy cure, which has a recommended minimum duration of six days. Thanks to the specific activity of the marine-based medium, doctors are able to restore equilibrium to the body and mind, preventing imbalances that can harm the body’s metabolism. We suggest the following treatments: Basic Cure: shape recovery and anti-stress; Special Back Cure; Marine Slimming Cure: anti-cellulite; Anti-Smoking Cure and the Leg Tonic Cure.

Highlights of the Spa include five massage treatment rituals by the French brand Thali’sens Mers et Merveilles (Thali’sens: The Ocean and its Marvels). In these treatments the knowledge of thalassotherapy meets the riches of nature from faraway lands. The Spa’s focus on well-being combines with the effectiveness of the sea resulting in magnificent skin and moments of sublime abandonment. Tension dissipates, the body becomes buoyant and the skin discovers its smoothness and radiance.

The rooms have been redecorated so that sophistication, simplicity and harmony coexist in the same space and interact perfectly with the exterior architecture. Guests of Vilalara will now enjoy greater comfort and flexibility. Every room is decorated in neutral tones and features ample space, a private balcony, comfortable daybeds and views overlooking the gardens, the sea or the pools. The junior suites have also been upgraded with the latest technology, including LCD TV, video-on-demand and Internet access.

The resort’s two restaurants located beside the cliff-top pool have been completely renovated and redesigned by Promontório Architecture. The B&G Restaurant now offers a menu of reinvented Portuguese cuisine, serving innovative dishes with an emphasis on local, quality produce. This restaurant will continue to offer its already famous gourmet menus of fresh, low-calorie recipes. The Terrace Grill, located on the ground floor, is spacious and offers a wide range of dishes. With nature as its backdrop, this restaurant offers themed evening meals, traditional "churrasco” barbecues and nighttime musical entertainment. There is a new lounge bar, Tonic which is located beside the cliff-top pool, with an outdoor deck and magnificent sea views.

A spacious multipurpose center has been built featuring areas where guests can enjoy reading, playing board games or watching television. For entertainment purposes, the resort also now includes a spacious outdoor amphitheatre built beautifully into the surrounding gardens. Guests can now stay at Vilalara comfortably all year round.

The resort also features the Koala Kids Club for children, with an innovative concept designed for children aged three to 12. It offers a varied entertainment program of indoor and outdoor activities in the company of characters “Koala” and “Kookaburra” and professional entertainers.

Hotel's best suite

This ample Junior Suite has a spacious living room, and features an innovative arquitectural bathroom concept, with shower or bathtub in the room. This Junior Suite also includes a comfortable day bed in a large balcony with outstanding views of the resorts magnificent gardens.
